4x4 inop.

I am confused about how the 4x4 works in my 2004 6.0 F350. Yesterday I got stuck and the 4x4 did not work. I turned the switch on the dash to both low and high, tried the hubs in both auto and lock. When I turned the switch on the dash I heard a short electric motor sound and the light on the dash lit up. I recently purchased this truck so I am still learning about it. Anyone have any ideas? Vacuum issue maybe? Should I change out the factory hubs to Warn hubs? Thanks for your help!!!

if you turn the hubs to lock and the transfer case is actually engaging then it should work. you could try to turn hubs to lock and with your hand try to turn the front drive shaft and see if the front hubs are actually locking if not then i would atleast try to rebuild your hubs or just replace them
