That could be your problem. I never recommend splicing in controllers this way. The Plug for your truck can be bought for $10 and then you know you have good connections. I would take a test light to the rear plug and see where and where you aren't getting power. Is the trailer plug really corroded? Maybe some dielectric grease would be in order?
