I drove wrecker some 3 decades ago for about 5 years. Wheel lift trucks were just coming in, hardly anybody had a slider. I mostly drove an F600 with a Holmes 500 twin boom sling. Great for off road recovery.

That's pretty much when I pledged my allegience to Ford trucks. It always seemed the Fords were out making money, and the Chevys were in the shop getting fixed.

Funniest thing that ever happened to me? We got a highway patrol call to a two car accident on a bridge. The bridge was completely blocked, and I was directed to hook up to the rear of an old Chrysler wagon. I set the j-hooks and lifted the rear. I straightened up the front wheels and tied off the steering wheel. As I was pulling forward to get off the road and wait for my paperwork, the steering box shaft snapped. the front end of the wagon swung to the right, taking out the entire side of a California Highway Patrol car.

I hung the trim that was peeled off the troopers car on my wall.
