Get yourself some degreaser and spray it on the dirty parts of the engine and just use a hose without a bunch of pressure to rinse it off. Let the degreaser sit for a bit to work. Just make sure you don't spray directly on the alternator and you should be fine. I usually start the truck up right after Im done to air out the alternator just in case I got any water on it
