Give it a wash Tiff and then check it again. You won't get soot from an intercooler boot being loose. You may have a leaky uppipe. Check your firewall and around you uppipe if you can. If its just soot around the rubber intercooler boots thats normal as the boots are oily and coolect the dirt and soot.
