Anybody else drive a tow truck?

Well well well... tonight, actually this whole week has been a comedy of errors and fun filled evenings. Last Monday, a van was involved in a homicide, ran from the police, dodged off 95 4b in DE and took a dirt road into the woods and the police lost him. Fortunately he hit a raised manhole cover doing about 60 and completely destroyed the front suspension/cradle and transmission. We had to back the 40+ foot International 4300 rollback down a muddy gravel road and hook it about 100 yards in the middle of the woods.

2 nights ago, a ford explorer was towing a 21 foot boat and at the bottom of a big hill on rt 40 between elkton and northeast started fishtaling and he lost it... boat ended up in a tree and the exploder on its side. We got the explorer, collettes got the boat.

TONIGHT... we go for a routine owners request around 12:30 and I back up on the side of Delaware ave with my step dad guiding me back. Well, we load the veh with our F650 Wrecker and we go to take it to the shop and the motor revs and we go no where. Backup, pull forward, back up pull forward, back up you know the drill. Anyways we buried the axle, in what we THOUGHT was gravel but turned out to be built up mud from the last time it flooded. We tried using the wheellift to push ourselves out, didn't work, tried using blocks, didn't work. The more we worked it, the further down into the 3 foot deep ditch we went. There was NOTHING to winch ourself out with for about 200 yards. I then run, in my steel toe boots, 1am in the rain about 38 degree's out from one side of town to the other (roughly 2 miles in 15 minutes)... get in the gate, and get the roll back out. Arrived, hooked, pulled and 2 seconds it was done. Gotta love that diesel power! haha....
