I would not want a politician driving anything inso far as scientific development is concerned !!!!!
I t would be very worthwhile if the trend of using coal for more and more things continues,as it lessens demand for diesel. There are many ships burning diesel that really should be using coal powered turbines for instance. There are many factories and large buildings using heating oil that perhaps should be using coal. The usa is estimated to have 200 years of coal reserves.
Another worthwhile and abundant energy source is methyl hydrate....this I expect to be the "portable energy" of the future. "mining" methods need to be developed tho...
The last thing this country needs is politicians determining how to do things energy wise.
