ummm, dim memorys!!

is it a mechanical or electronic?

i think if it's mechanical, there is a throttle delay. pop the valve covers, look for a 5th rack arm, going into a resivour. it's got an orifice in it, bleeds out the oil, so the throttle can't snap to wide open, cut's down the smoke. take out the orifice, all done!

if you got someone who is really, really good, rack and valve adjustments ("overhead") will make a big difference, they are normally right on new, but it is a periodic adjustment item. but, if no one is experienced, you can loose as much or more as you MIGHT gain by not getting it right.

also, if you're on good terms with your welder, cut the end off the muffler and gut it, then weld the end back on. you'll hear a little more turbo under power, but wait til you get into the jakes!!! WHOO HOO, knock the coconuts off the trees!!.

if you aren't experienced, do not mess around inside the govenor housing box!!! the throttle goes to full fuel when not running, go screwing around in there and you can get a nasty runaway when you fire it. seen that happen a few times, it ain't never pretty. same for trying to pinch off the return line, it can force too much fuel into the injectors.

remember, springs give fuel, flyweights take it away in a mechanical governor.

and, blow out or replace the air filter often. make sure no exhaust leaks, they cost boost.

if it's a DDEC, you'll need a prolink to uprate it. hets are 505 hp, but not sure if the hemtt will support that. been away from them for too long.
