transmission not working

I have a 2002 f250,96000 miles,4wd,automatic anyway saturday night my wife was going about 45-50 mph when truck came out of gear. pulled over turned it off. started it back up put in drive, truck goes about 10 feet and then stops. no foward gears,no reverse,no 4wd,nothin. she heard no funny noises when this happened. got the truck home(towed) and this morning called 2 transmission repair shops. one tells me it's probably TC,1000.00 for new one and labor. next shop tells me probably gonna need a whole new transmission,3500.00 new trans and labor. I don't know squat about transmissions. should I just go with new TC or whole new trans.

BTW,transmission fluid looked clean,at least on the stick,I didn't drop the pan.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've got to make a decision by this afternoon, this truck is my only means of transportation
