that is my thinking. I think they know damn well that the heads are bad and are trying to get what they can before they have to bite the bullet and just fix the darn truck. It is strange however that there is seemingly nothing wrong with the truck, no white smoke, no overheating, no codes, no loss of power, nothing just that funny smell once in awhile.

Most likely you are only boiling the coolant on wide open or really close to wide open. It probably bubbles a little into the cooling system while driving slow but not enough that it can't bleed off that pressure slowly. When you hammer on it, it's most likely blowing in there fast and hot!
