Wheel adaptors on the rear offsets the load on the wheel bearings and could cause premature bearing failure. The factory dually pick-ups have longer axle housings, thus moving the bearings out and making the differential wider so the inner wheels will fit in the stock wheel wells on the bed. You might find a factory dually rear diff and swap yours out.

I am with you on this one. I would rather stay away from using adapters if possible. I have even heard some horror stories about people that put the 18 wheeler alcoa wheels on their dullies and having problems when hauling heavy loads.
