How do I find out of my hubs are manual or automatic? I drive a 2002 f-250 4x4 XL, but I just bought it this summer, and had no need for 4 wheel drive until now. When we have people over for the holidays, I usually back my truck off the driveway and onto a gravel portion of our yard that is slightly downhill (uphill to get back to my driveway). However, this was the first time that I did it with my new truck (previous truck was a 2001 Toyota Tacoma), and I could not get my truck out. I put it in 4 wheel drive, but the rear wheels just kept spinning. I understand that I have open differentials, but I just want to make sure that I don't also have manual hubs. The 4-wheel drive is a shifter on the floor if that helps. I ended up having to tow my truck out with my tractor, how sad is that.
