A while ago Marc, posted this, i saved it and now i shall repost it for you, but complete credit due is to Marc!
Service Manual:
first off ill state that if your truck is used hard....IE towing heavy or rough off roading...these intervals should be cut by 1/3 to 1/2........
Fluid requirments
Front diff.........80/90 gear oil
Rear diff..........75/140 synthetic gear oil...also 4oz of friciton modifier if its a limited slip...
transfercase......Standard Mercon ATF
Tranny.....E4OD/4R100(7.3 trannies)....Standard Mercon ATF.......Torqueshift(6.0)....Mercon SP ATF...and nothing other than that........ZF 6 speed requires a special synthetic available from ford
Engine oil.....15-40 (or 10-30 in cold winter areas during that time)....but make sure it says "for diesel engines"
powersteering fluid....Type F ATF if the resevour is right on the pump (7.3)....Mercon ATF if the resevour isnt right on the pump (6.0)
Brake fluid.....Standard DOT 3 fluid in all vehicles.....
Coolant....this is a touchy area....if it was green from the factory.....any green coolant will work....if it was yellow/gold from the factory...make sure to use only coolant that matches ford gold specifications and NEVER use a coolant that says its compatable with all coolants....NEVER mix coolant colors....
Service Intervals
Every 3-5K.....Oil change....Rotate tires...check all fluids and air filter (dont trust the air filter minder on 7.3's.....but it is accurate on 6.0's)
Every 15k.....change fuel filter (there is two on a 6.0) and change the spinn on trans filter that is on the framerail on the front of the passanger side on the 6.0
Every 30k....Change green coolant, Service trans (if your truck does not have a drain plug on the torque converter....some 4R100's 01-02 dont....no tranny does 03 and newer....then pull the plug on the pan and drain it at 15k....dropp the pan and change the filter 15k after that...and run that rotating interval every 15k)......service transfercase, drain powersteering fluid and re-fill (easiest to do by taking the bottom (toughtest to get to) line off of the pump on a 7.3...the one with the hose clamp....and on a 6.0.....take any line off of the resevour and drain it and the re-fill it)
Every 60k......Change Gold coolant......Service rear diff.....service front diff if 4x4 is used often....
Every 100K....Service front diff if not done at 60K......Change Serp belt and inspect tensioner.....inspect all coolant hoses.....Service manual (ZF 6 speed) tranny
Every 2-3 years.......Change ALL brake fluid.....do this by "bleeding the system" like you would if there was air in the lines....till the fluid coming out of each caliper is clean.....make sure NOT to run your resevour low doing this or air contamination in the master cylender will result......
Every oil change should include an inspection of the basic things and grease the steering linkage....if you rotat your tires...inspect steering linkages....ball joints...ETC
