Ok, so I bought a 2000 Excursion 7.3 TD about 2 weeks ago. I hadn't gotten it up on a lift since I bought it, so I took it over to my buddies shop and lifted it up. I noticed some oil residue, not real bad, but enough to drip down the side of the block and around the inspection cover. I did verify it was oil and not tranny fluid. It appeared to be coming from the headgasket area, but it's tough to tell when a decent section of the engine/block has residue on it. I was wondering if anyone knows of a problem area up top on these engines??
I was trying to find the source, so I lowered the truck and started looking around up top. I really couldn't see anything, but I did notice a bit of residue underneath where the turbo was. Also, in observing, I noticed a decent amount of buildup around the charge pipe couplers. So I decided I would just pull off the charge pipe (do the foil delete why I was there..lol) and have a look. There wasn't a ton of oil inside the pipe but there was definitely oil inside of the pipes. Is this normal??
Also, that foil sucks to get off....
