I've heard these things go bad after a year. Could you have gotten some old ones? I always drain a few ounces from the radiator drain pet****.
Read it within a few seconds and I always double check the freeze protection with a Prestone antifreeze coolant tester. Since I completely trust the old style coolant tester, if the freeze protection doesn't match, I wouldn't trust the SCA or nitrate reading either.
