Rest well, Maj Winters
I didn't know where else to post here on powerstroke about Maj Richard "Dick" Winters of the 501st. He passed this past week on the 2nd of January and I didn't learn of it until today.
After burying my grandfather last winter who flew missions over the Himalayans into China, that was the moment that truly struck home to me that we're not going to have these warriors, these titans, around forever. Fredericksburg, PA is a short drive from my home in NY, and I was always tempted to drive down to his house just so that I could get the chance to meet him. That will never happen now, and the Marine in me is feeling this world is a little less bright without him in it.
I think I'm going to watch "Bastogne" tonight with a warm scotch, and thank God that my Marines and I never had to go through **** like that.
