Its possible you have a boost leak with the black smoke on setting 1. Here is the only place I have seen them. Im sure there is more out there and even the vendors here might have them.

Thats cool! Traverse City is a beautiful place! That whole area is growing fast. Munising is a great place also if you like the outdoors! Gods country in my opinion
