I might be wrong but I think 97 was a mechanical fuel pump? Someone will correct me if im wrong. You could pull the filter to the fuel bowl drain it and crank the engine over to see if it fills the fuel filter bowl. Also if its an electrical pump do the same thing but cycle the key and see if it fills the filter bowl.
