Ford 2000 Tractor/Hydraulic Question

This should qualify for an Off-Topic Discussion:
I have a 1966 Ford 2000 tractor. I am changing the hydraulic fluid and filters.

1st question - What is a safe solvent to use to wash out the sludge and junk in the housng that won't damage O-rings, seals, etc.? The hydraulic fluid is also the rear axle lubricant.

2nd question: Does anyone out there have a Ford 200 tractor and know how to remove the permanent/reuseable suction filter? The filter is attached to a tube that is on the bottom of the housing under everything else. I can unbolt it from it's support and pull the end of the tube out of it's o-ringed seat, but I can't seem to get the thing out to clean it. I may have to clean it in-place if I can find a safe solvent to use. (See question #1)

Your help wil be greatly appreciated. The so-called tractor forums don't hold a candle to this forum.
