If you leave them out you are just exposing more of the trailer to the weather. The best thing to do is keep them closed unless you need to get in and do something and keep the trailer covered with something tarp, cover, building ect... Don't forget to cover the tires if stored for a long time. The sun will dry rott your tires and a blown tire on a travel trailer can cause alot of damage.
