Normal oil consumption for 90K mile truck?

When I did my first oil change I overfilled a bit and ended up about a 1/4" to 3/4" over the max fill line. I realize that this isn't ideal, but it was my first time and I was a little inexact because I was using a 5 gallon bucket of oil and not individual quarts. Now, 3000 miles later the dipstick is reading about 1/8" below the max fill line. Is that normal? I'm just trying to get a gauge for how much a truck normally uses. I'm thinking that its not that bad since its a relatively large volume of oil versus what I'm used to. Even the big six in my Land Cruiser only used something like 8 quarts! Also, I've NEVER seen smoke from my truck even when really laying on the throttle.
