I have a 2004 f-350 doing the same thing. Took it in and dicovered the clutch pack in the rear differential had come apart. That's why most hear it only when turning; slip differential allows wheels to turn at different speeds ie. turning. It was really bad when towing my fifth wheel, but the new clutch pack has solved the problem.
