I've found a pond out between my house and the river 2-3 years ago and it's like 4 acres total. It's some sort of a pit and it's REALLY DEEP in the middle... at least 20+ feet and it never dries out.
OK well this thing swarms with grasshoppers/locusts/crickets and has a good population of turtles, snakes, water bugs and other wildlife that can fly or walk... I've tested the waters with my testing kit for my aquarium and everything is within parameters... the only thing it's lacking is FISH! Reason: It was created about 10 years ago and sits on top of a hill well above ANY other body of water and it has about a 12 acre field that drains into it.
So here is my question...
I was going to put some fish into it... not many... just something to get started. I was hoping maybe Stripers (favorite fish to catch) but more likely bass, catfish and sunfish *pond fish*. Of course I'll put other stuff in there like Crawfish, snails, and other fish edible critters.
Anybody have any ideas or thoughts? I'll only be putting native species in and most likely whatever I catch out of the river that flows about 100 yards away from it...
I think it will be pretty cool since I could potentially have my own little honey hole
