I tried a "clay bar" for the first time - used it on my black '08 Mustang GT this afternoon. It seemed to come out pretty good. I have heard people rant & rave about the effectiveness of clay for detailing a vehicle - so I figured it was about time to give it a whirl.


I used the Meguiar's brand "clay bar" kit that came with a spray detailer, a soft terry cloth, a box with two small clay bars (only used one of them) and a 4-ounce bottle of "cleaning wax" - about $15 for the kit. I purchased it at Wal-Mart.

From start to finish, including thoroughly washing the car by hand, I suppose it took about 3 1/2 hours - including a beer break or two. My Mustang probably did not have too many impurities in the paint because the clay bar did not get very dirty at all. The worst sections were the lower part of the rear fenders and the rocker panels underneath the doors. All in all, it was an excellent way to spend a Saturday afternoon.



I have posted a few photos below. Sorry they are not the best quality, but I have an "older" digital camera. Even so, they are not half bad in my opinion.
