Also if the lock ring is there, Pull it out then pull the hub off, check the o-ring. It maybe wore out and allowing the hub to rattle around. Even if the lock ring is there.
All you need to pull the hub off is a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the lock ring. Once the lock ring is off you can pull the hub off. There should be an o-ring on the hub.
