it only takes one or two decent slips to make a clutch pack burn up and more than likely you would have never seen it on your guage because the gauge reads converter outlet temp, so the hot oil would have gone right into the pan and been picked up by the pump and then into the coverter, mixed with the other oil by now so i doubt it would have showed much.
Alot of things can cause that, slow moving spool, or solenoid, you may have never even felt it, it could have happend in a gear change and it was dragging that clutch pack while the other was engauged at the same time, hard to say but im glad you got your truck back
